Now, don't get me wrong, I love both, but I'm a bit miffed with all the "hey, we've discovered crochet" articles lately! There was an article just the other day in the Washington Post Express magazine here. Now, again, it's awesome that crochet groups and guilds (I'm a proud member of CGOA and Crochetville!) are popping up everywhere and that people are drawn to trying crochet and utilizing it in all sorts of different ways. But, for those of us who've been doing it for a loooooong time, we know the mental and physical benefits of crochet, and yours truly here has been talking about them for 10 years now. In fact, I'm realizing we just passed Many Creative Gifts' 10th Year Anniversary on April 5th. Wow, well, stay tuned for some special celebrations throughout this month ;-)
But, I digress. My main point is that we Americans seem to need to take ancient practices (yoga has been around for millenniums, and crochet is centuries old) and make them new and trendy. And then we tire of them and have to find the next big thing. Well, I know my dear readers, both new to crochet and old hats at it, appreciate the virtues of crochet and are not approaching it as a passing fad. Each crocheter has her or his reason(s) for taking up the craft: for relaxation, to do something tangible and useful with your hands, to give or donate special mementos, and on and on... Whether you crochet by yourself for yourself or in a large group for charitable reasons or a bit of both, crochet means whatever it means to you, and as long as it remains meaningful to you in whatever way, please continue to embrace it no matter whether it's the latest trend.
Ok, off my soap box and onto the celebration! For the month of April, I'll be having some really great specials in my Ravelry store and through this blog, so come back on Friday and see what's here!

Crush
Mmmm, I still have a crush on my husband! He's just so cute, inside and out. And today is our anniversary, number 6. I'm very fortunate -- despite some crazy work hours lately and being behind on projects, housecleaning, etc., life is still pretty good.
I was reminded of this yesterday when a single friend of mine was bemoaning the dating life. It's easy for me to talk, but I was encouraging her to just try to enjoy each day and each encounter and try not to think about where it could lead, what it all means, etc. But, it's true for all of us, single or married. We're not promised tomorrow, we just have this very moment, to make the best of it as we can. I tell myself that when bending down for the upteenth time to pick up that man's balled up socks (see, married life isn't all perfect either!). But, I'd rather be bending down for those socks than dealing with some of the challenges that I know lots of people amazingly deal with every day.
So, no matter what your situation is, please stop today for just a moment, and think about one bright, positive thing going on for you and relish it, squeeze it tight, and "be thoughtful" about it.

SEO and BOGO
SEO, search engine optimization. I'm still not sure I fully understand how the optimization part of it works, but I do try to think about using "key words" in blog entries and crochet tips on Lifetips. I watched a webinar today about some new tech tools that Lifetips is rolling out to help us Gurus post more tips and get our books ready, so it was pretty motivating. I like the fact that they seem re-energized themselves about their mission and seem open to innovative ideas (soon including the posting of YouTube videos!). I'm looking forward to more webinars, especially the one about SEO.
Oh, but more importantly, a special offer for this anniversary month -- the BOGO offer -- buy one, get one free! If you buy a pattern on Ravelry (just click on the icon to the left) and send me an email telling which other pattern of the same or lesser price you want, I will email it to you for free :-) This offer is good until April 30, 2010, and don't worry about registering your information with Ravelry, you will be glad you did. It's very secure, and they make payment and download so easy! I'm hoping to get a few new patterns posted soon, so go set up your Ravelry account!
Today's Thought: Food Rule # 50 -- The banquet is in the first bite. A great reminder to slow down and enjoy the taste of your food. As Mr. Pollen says, no bite is as good as the first, and each subsequent bite will give you less and less satisfaction. We've tried to implement this rule just by slowing down and savoring each bite and trying to stop before we feel all bloated and stuffed. One strategy we use in restaurants involves cutting everything in half and asking for the doggy bag up front!

Happy 5th Anniversary!!
Hard to believe, but Many Creative Gifts is 5 years old today!! Whoooo, hooooo! Now, for my loyal fans, I'm planning on offering great discounts and deals this month, ... just as soon as I figure out how to make that happen ;-) I'm not sure the services I use right now allow for coupon codes, but I will find a way. And, I'd love suggestions on the deals and products you'd like to see this month.
Other than that, happy Monday morning, have a great day!
